Youth take over a second time
BOORT District School have “taken over” a rural business for a second time for hands-on experience in the agricultural industry while strengthening links between education and local business.

BOORT District School have “taken over” a rural business for a second time for hands-on experience in the agricultural industry while strengthening links between education and local business.
During the project, students completed business profiles on Nutrien Ag, developed recommendations to improve workplace safety signage, produced informative newsletters and wrote personal biographies explaining what agriculture means to them.
Career pathways teacher Tom Bleicher said: “This project gives young people the opportunity to lead hands-on projects that connect classroom learning with real-world industry and future”.
“Through practical experiences, teamwork and mentoring, participants build valuable skills, confidence and knowledge while exploring opportunities for their future,” he said.
The students presented their work during a project launch held last Friday.
Staff, students, families and community members attended the event, with each student confidently presenting part of the project and outlining what they had learned throughout the experience.
Mr Bleicher said experiences like Youth Take Over help students expand their networks and develop confidence.
“In a small community we often think we know everyone, but we really only know the people within our own circles, and that’s especially true for young people,” he said.
Branch Manager Cam Nicholson said:”Projects like this expand students’ networks and create connections that can have a positive impact on their future pathways.”
