BLACK Wallaby Wines has taken out the top Daylesford Wine Show Award.
Dave and Jayne Lawson last weekend collected the Julian West trophy for best winery-winemaker producing less than 25 tonnes a year.
Success at the major boutique wine show also included a gold medal for the Bridgewater winery’s 2021 pinot noir, pipped by half a point for the class trophy.
The Julian West trophy recognised the consistent quality of Black Wallaby wines in show sections this year.
“Dave is innovative and passionate about his craft and takes great pride in growing the best quality fruit he can, then producing this into beautiful, elegant wines for the world to enjoy,” said Jayne.
Dave said the Daylesford show attracted high quality entries from smaller wineries across VIctoria.
It is not the first time Black Wallaby has been among major trophies. In the 2020, Black Wallaby Wines won the top gold medal, best shiraz of show and best red wine of show.
Chair of judges at the 2023 show was Rutherglen winemaker Lilian Carter who has a focus on sustainability and success for small and medium sized producers and growing markets in Australia and Asia.
