Will's Blazing glory at titles

WEDDERBURN College Year 9 student William Huismann (pictured) and his basketball representative team the Maryborough Blazers under 16 boys have taken out the 2026 Portland Aluminium Southwest Classic Division 1 Championship.

Coached by his father Ben Huismann and his brother Wedderburn College year 12 student Ollie Huismann, the team defeated a number of teams seeded well above them throughout the weekend. This was the teams first time entering a Division 1 tournament usually competing at D2 and D3 level.

Coach Ben said, “The boys wanted to step up and have a crack at D1, to see where they were at, to see if they could compete at the highest level. Not only did they compete, they took out the Championship”

Maryborough Blazers defeated Portland Coasters 50-45 in the final that went into overtime in front of a loud crowed that filled Portland Stadium.
