Wellbeing infused with touch of levity away from farm
LODDON Plains — In the heart of our rural landscape, the health of the land and the health of the community are deeply intertwined.

As our region continues to navigate the unique and often heavy
pressures of a challenging dry period, the Loddon Plains Landcare Network will hold an upcoming community-focused event: “Dry Seasons, Strong Spirits.”
The evening will be held at the LPLN office and is designed as an opportunity for residents from across the district to step away from the farm gate, leave the stresses of the season behind for a few hours, and join together in an environment built on mutual support and shared experience.
The event acknowledges that the true toll of a dry season isn’t just measured in millimetres of rain or the price of feed; it is also felt in the mental and emotional fatigue that settles over our families and neighbourhoods.
“Dry Seasons, Strong Spirits” aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive space where we can acknowledge these pressures openly.
By prioritising mental health and resilience, the LPLN hopes to foster the social connections that act as a safety net for our community, reinforcing the idea that no one in the Loddon Plains should have to navigate these difficult seasons in isolation.
The evening will feature an impressive lineup of guest speakers who know exactly how to bridge the gap between serious conversation and a good time.
We are thrilled to welcome Jeremy Forbes, co-founder of HALT (Hope Assistance Local Tradies) and a renowned advocate for rural wellbeing. Jeremy’s “Save Your Bacon” approach to mental health has reached thousands across Australia, and he will share his deep insights into how we can better support our mates and ourselves when the pressure mounts.
Of course, resilience isn’t just about serious discussion—it’s also about the ability to find joy even when things are tough.
To ensure the night has a much-needed lighter side, we are thrilled to feature the comedic talents of Tom Siegert
. A household name for many through his The Suburban Footballer sketches and appearances on national television, Tom brings a sharp, observational wit that perfectly captures the humour of country and sporting life. Tom will be joined by Dave O’Neil, a veteran of Australian comedy with more than 30 years in the industry and performances at over 20 Melbourne International Comedy Festivals.
Together, they will bring warmth,
laughter and relatability to the night, helping create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where the community can connect, unwind and share a laugh.
By weaving laughter into the night, the event aims to create a supportive yet relaxed atmosphere where attendees can let their guard down, enjoy a laugh with their neighbours, and remember the value of a good
sense of humour.
The night is about reminding people they are not facing the
season alone.
Dry seasons take a toll that goes well beyond the paddock fence.
This event is about creating a space where people can step away from the pressure for a few hours, share a laugh, have an honest conversation, and feel supported by their community.
Strong connections are just as important as strong land management, especially in tough seasons.
With another Dry Seasons, Strong Spirits event scheduled for Pyramid Hill in March, the program invites every member of our community—primary producers, local business owners, and residents alike—to come together and recharge.
This event is an investment in the social fabric of the Loddon Plains, recognising that during dry times our greatest strength lies in connection.
By sharing stories, support, and a
laugh, we can foster resilience and build a stronger future for our whole region.
We look forward to seeing the community fill the room for a night of meaningful conversation, much-needed comedy, and a collective celebration of the spirit that keeps us going through even the toughest of seasons.
