GIVING older Australians and veterans more incentive to re-enter the workforce is a no-brainer to help address labour shortages, said Mallee MP Anne Webster.
Doing so will allow recipients of these pensions to work more without reducing their entitlements.
“This will not only fill job vacancies, it also gives older Australians and veterans the choice to pick up more work if they are willing and able, Dr Webster said.
“Providing these people a chance supplement their fixed income will help address some of the cost-of-living pressures Labor has failed to address in their budget.”
Dr Webster said given the Federal Government had already broken its promise to cut power bills by $275 and Australians were facing the choice between heating homes and putting food on the table, it was time for real action.
And while the scheme helps those on the pension, employers would also benefit.
“We need to incentivise people to return to work and mobilise a ready workforce,” Dr Webster said.
“Across the economy employers are crying out for workers, this is a practical solution that helps them and those potential employees who are willing to work if it doesn’t compromise their entitlements.”
