Resource Manager for northern Victoria yesterday updated the 2022-2023 trade opportunity from New South Wales to Victoria.

Resource Manager Mark Bailey said the announcement focused on the availability of interstate trade instead of the risk of spill.

“Updates to the risk of spill in the Murray, Goulburn and Campaspe systems are no longer required this season,” Dr Bailey said. “The systems have reached maximum allocation this season and all water in spillable accounts has been deducted.

“Monthly updates on the opportunity for trade from New South Wales to Victoria will continue because the storage levels in Hume and Dartmouth reservoirs are important for determining the volume available for trade,” Dr Bailey added.

“Victoria’s trading rules limit allocation trade from New South Wales to Victoria to the lesser of a net annual volume of 200 gigalitres or the volume that keeps the risk of spill of Victoria’s share of the Hume and Dartmouth reservoirs below 50 per cent.”

“Allocation trade from New South Wales to Victoria is not currently possible because Victoria’s shares of Lake Hume and Dartmouth Reservoir are close to full,” Dr Bailey said.

Next trade opportunity announcement

The opportunity for allocation trade is updated monthly with each risk of spill announcement. Customers can learn more about trade opportunities on the Victorian Water Register website.

The Murray system trade opportunity will be updated on Friday February 10, 2023.
