VIDEO: Firies spend Christmas morning at large hayshed fire
CFA volunteers have been at the scene of a large haystack fire at Arnold since early on Christmas morning.
They are expected to remain at the large shed fire on Arnold-Bridgewater Road, nears Higgs Lane, for late into this morning and a fire break is to be ploughed around the shed.
It is estimated the damage bill will exceed more than $500,000 and early reports are that more than 400 bales of hays have been destroyed.
Firefighters from Bridgewater and Inglewood brigades were called to the fire about 1am.
An advice just issued for the Arnold, Arnold West, Bridgewater, Bridgewater On Loddon, Bullabul, Derby, Inglewood, Leichardt, Llanelly, Newbridge districts says:
There is a hayshed fire at Bridgewater-Dunolly Road, near Higgs Lane that is contained.
Haystack fires are not likely to spread into grassland but do generate a lot of smoke.
Firefighters are attending to this fire and will continue to monitor.
Smoke will be visible from nearby roads and communities.
