Unanswered goals put Tigers on top
MACORNA continues to do almost everything right in its first season of Loddon Valley football.

MACORNA continues to do almost everything right in its first season of Loddon Valley football.
A 106-point win over Mitiamo last Saturday boosted its percentage to the point where it is worth another game over the chasing pack.
The Tigers are now a game and almost 20 per cent ahead of their nearest rival for fifth on the ladder, Maiden Gully.
Coach Fergus Payne and club officials will be looking with disapproval at a one-point loss to Pyramid Hill and a four-point defeat to the Eagles in recent weeks.
If they had won those, Macorna would be comfortably in fourth place and all but certain of a maiden finals appearance.
As it stands, that top-five finish is in the Tigers’ hands, with clashes against Bears Lagoon Serpentine, Newbridge and Marong in the next three weeks.
Mitiamo led by four points at quarter-time, but afterwards it became a procession, with Macorna kicking 19 of the next 21 goals in the game, 10 of them unanswered in the second term.
Full-forward Dimitri Fasoulis continued his good form with nine goals, taking him to 43 for the season, which has his third on the goalkicking table behind Lachie Sharp and Jhye Baddeley-Kelly - rare air indeed.
Classy midfielder Sam Whinfield must be favourite for the league’s Rising Star award, again among the best for the Tigers.
The Superoos have been competitive recently, with a win over Bears Lagoon Serpentine, a brave effort against Marong and a narrow loss to Calivil.
But this defeat was their second worst result for the season and keeps them anchored on the bottom with just the one win.
Miti travels to Newbridge this week, another team desperate for a win to stay in finals contention.
