Two loyal servants of club remembered
SECRETARIES through the ages were linked during the Inglewood club’s 150th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of a restored flagpole.
SECRETARIES through the ages were linked during the Inglewood club’s 150th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of a restored flagpole.
The pole was restored by Inglewood builder Eric Rochester in honour of his father Howard who served as secretary and timekeeper for the club.
Historian David Rose said the flagpole had been erected in 1925 in memory of Robert Coutts who had been secretary for seven years until his death. The flagpole was transferred from the former football ground in Southey Street to the new recreation reserve in 1951.
Carol Canfield, a descendant of Robert Coutts, was among those to witness the flagpole restoration unveiling.
They later attended the launch of Rose’s latest history book on the club - Inglewood Immortals, which he dedicated to Howard Rochester.
