KINGOWER completed a 10-wicket outright victory over Wedderburn Band in Upper Loddon junior cricket in a two-day match notable for slow but steady scoring.

After succumbing for 18 in its first innings, the Band made 48 runs in its second dig – off 48 overs.

The most remarkable batting performance was from Wedderburn’s Nate Turnbull, who stepped to the crease in the 17th over with his team 5-21 and looking unlikely to make Kingower bat again after the home team made 58 in its first innings.

About two hours later, he was not out when his side’s final wicket fell.

Amazingly, he did not score a run but held up the Kingower bowlers in a brave and disciplined effort.

Wedderburn’s last 21 overs with the bat resulted in just six runs.

Some of Kingower’s bowling figures were quite astonishing, with 22 maidens delivered throughout the innings.

Ryder Smith took 3-2 from six overs, four of which were maidens, while Xander Wilson’s 2-3 came from seven overs with four maidens, taking 2-0 from his last 21 deliveries.

Will Huisman made 11 of the Band’s score as wickets fell in clumps, with 5-4 at the finish, making Turnbull’s effort in protecting his wicket all the more meritorious.

He and Huisman put on 23 for the sixth wicket to at least force Kingower to bat again.

It took just four balls to close out the win, with Morgan Lonza and Ryder Smith each belting a four.
