WEDDERBURN’S Donaldson Park became a lake on Christmas Day with local residents putting kayaks to water.
Sections of the trotting track were washed away and officials from the football club and harness racing club were waiting on Tuesday for water to recede before checking memorabilia stored in buildings at the park.
The football club had its historical items in the hockey shed until the new community complex being built at the park was completed.
Historian Roger Paterson said photographs have been on tables but he was concerned for football honour boards. ”One thing in their favour is that they are made of hardwood,” he said.
Harness racing club president Bruce Hargreaves had stored trotting memorabilia in the drivers’ room. Sandbags had been put at doors to the room before the Christmas Eve downpour.
He said: “I would like to think Harness Racing Victoria will help with the track repairs.”
The club is racing at Maryborough until the new complex is ready.
