Town harnessed for big day of cups
WEDDERBURN HARNESS Racing Club is gearing up for its annual cup meeting on Sunday.

The two main races on the nine-event program are the Wedderburn Hotel Trotters Cup and the Loddon Shire Pacing Cup.
Club secretary Tom Nisbet was hopeful of drawing a crowd of more than 800, matching last year’s event.
Harness Racing Victoria on Wednesday reviewed weather forecasts and after consulting with its chief veterinarian, decided the meeting would proceed as planned with the first race at 1.30pm.
The 2025 meeting was the first for three years at Wedderburn due to reconstruction of the Donaldson Park venue.
Acceptances for the cup meeting closed yesterday after nominations for the club’s only meeting of the year, after a harness racing restructure, were extrended.
The hot weather is the only concern for Nisbet.
“I’ve been looking every day for the past week – we’ve had as low as 27, and today there were three different forecasts,” he said.
“One said 40, one said 38 and one said 35.”
The day includes live music, Fashions on the Field, face painting for youngsters, and an on-site ice-cream van, which is sure to do a roaring trade.
Children can also vie for $100 gift vouchers on the day.
