Undefeated Wedderburn is two games clear on top, with the Bulls just 0.15 per cent ahead of the Magpies in second place.
Both teams won last Saturday, with Wedderburn having a second consecutive weekend off, enjoying a bye instead of a scheduled match against St Arnaud, which has withdrawn from A Grade competition this year.
Boort won 40-25 against bottom side Charlton, while Birchip Watchem’s 59-38 victory over Donald saw them just shading the Magpies on the ladder.
The Magpies were always in control against the Navy Blues in tough weather conditions but will rue not coming away with a bigger win.
They kept Charlton to just three goals in the second quarter and four in the last term and increased their margin at every change of ends, without ever asserting complete dominance.
Goal shooter Steph Haw and goal defence Grace Hocking were Boort’s best players on the day.
Fifth-placed Donald, with two wins and a draw from six matches, will visit Boort on Saturday, while Wedderburn will host Calder United.
The Lions have one win and a draw for the season and are in second-last spot on the ladder.
They’re likely to be the next victim of the relentless Redback machine, which will be fit, rested and raring to go after two weeks on the sidelines.
