ACCOMMODATION was at a premium in Pyramid Hill last Friday night ahead of the town’s parkrun launch at the weekend.
More than 70 runners tackled the Pyramid Hill circuit - three laps for 5km around the mountain’s base and through The Granite Gambit and The Pebble Plunge.
Locals were joined by parkrun ambassadors and enthusiasts from across Victoria to christen the track.
Key driver to see Pyramid Hill added to the international parkrun venues, Jason Dellar, said the idea had started over a cup of coffee in Washington in January 2024.
“People came out of the woodwork to support us,” he told runners and volunteer officials.
Among supporters of the concept had been the town’s progress association, Loddon Shire Council and Healthy Loddon
Mr Dellar described the parkrun as an “exciting new event, combining fitness, community spirit, and our spectacular local scenery”.
Mayor Dan Straub, launching the event, said Pyramid Hill was “now part of a world-wide family”.
“People can get out and be active and enjoy the natural environment.”
Cr Straub said Pyramid Hill parkrun was the second in the shire, with Boort having launched three years ago.
Runners and walkers said they enjoyed the Pyramid Hill course.
Bendigo’s Hayden Poke was the first to finish the course in 20 minutes 38 seconds.
“I wasn’t expecting the hill to be so tough but it’s still a nice course,” he said.
Narelle McInness travelled from Eltham to be in the first group of parkrun participants.
“It’s a beautiful run,”Narelle said.
