NEW Calder Highway town speed limits could be extended to Bridgewater.
The town’s development committee has called for its main street to mirror new restrictions announced last week in Inglewood and Wedderburn.
President Shannon Brown said: “Let’s make the speed limits going through our local towns consistent.
“We should have the same safety considerations in Bridgewater, for people crossing the roads in all towns as our neighbours will now have,” she said.
The State Government last week announced a 40kmh limit for Inglewood and Wedderburn.
The Wedderburn limit was to have applied by the end of this month but crews erected new signs along High Street within 48 hours of the announcement.
Signs through Inglewood are expected to be erected by the end of January.
Department of Transport and Planning this week said it would continue to monitor safety along the Calder Highway in Bridgewater.
Decisions on conducting a speed review along the Calder Highway in Bridgewater will be considered as part of future planning, it said.
Loddon Shire Council had listed speed reduction through Inglewood and pedestrian lights at Wedderburn among key advocacy priorities for Calder Highway improvements.
Campaigners for pedestrian lights at Wedderburn have vowed to continue pushing for the additional safety measure.
They say the existing school pedestrian crossing would be the right location.
Council wants work that will see the load limit on the Loddon River bridge at Bridgewater increased.
The shire is also backing the ongoing upgrade of the Calder Alternate Highway running between Ravenswood and Marong and wants the department as a partner on Inglewood streetscape works.
