THE TOP three sides flexed their muscles last round at the expense of the lower sides on the ladder as they warmed up for finals action in a couple of weeks.
Macorna scraped over the line against a determined Calivil side at home and Maiden Gully left the finals’ door ajar at the expense of Inglewood by just two points in a low-scoring affair.
This week’s games see the Bears on home turf at Janiember Park to Mitiamo, with both sides suffering huge losses last Saturday. Serp will be determined not to let this one slip as they did in round eight and will probably just sneak a win in a close game.
Inglewood hosts the Maroons at home and can’t afford to drop another one. The Blues to win over an injury-plagued Newbridge at Inglewood arena.
Pyramid Hill travels north over the Mincha plains for the first time to do battle with the Macorna Tigers.
Macorna fell just short of an upset in their first encounter this year and will be keen to give the Dogs a run for their money in front of their own crowd, but it’s hard to see Pyramid dropping this one as it builds momentum for another finals’ campaign.
Calivil is at Rodeo Park against the ruthless Mean Machine, who are coasting along just nicely at the moment. Hard to see the Demons troubling Bridgewater this week despite their great effort against the Tigers. Bridgewater by a fair margin, I expect.
Last game is at the Panther Pit, where the Eagles fly over the hill to do battle with Marong. Maiden Gully looks out of its depth in this match, with Marong to get the chocolates at Malone Park.
It could also be a historic day for Marong, playing its last Loddon Valley match at Malone Park. All depends on the bid to head into Bendigo.
