Bridgewater has been a town without internet connection the past 48 hours.
Telstra had told customers customers complaining about the loss of service that they would have to wait a week before connections were restored.
But after being contacted by the Loddon Herald this morning, a statement from regional general manager Steve Tinker has now said the telco hope to have connectivity restored by the end of the day.
Businesses have been forced to either use their mobile phones for eftpos purchases are take only cash.
They have told the Loddon Herald is disruption to their businesses. Residents have also questioned the lack of information being received by Telstra.
In a statement, Mr Tinker said:
"There has been an impact to ADSL internet in the Bridgewater area since Wednesday afternoon, due to faulty hardware.
"This is not affecting NBN services or Telstra mobiles. Telstra techs have investigated and ordered replacement hardware which is due to arrive this afternoon and we hope to have connectivity restored by the end of the day.
"As this was an unexpected issue, it is not something we could have planned for. We understand the importance of connectivity particularly for businesses for important things like Eftpos and would suggest to potentially look at multiple connectivity options such as a landline and wifi in the event that an outage occurs.
"Telstra thanks the Bridgewater community for their patience while repairs are underway.”
