Tara far from cherry about climate risk
TARA Hammett fears proposed wind farms at Mincha and Macorna will harm the micro-climate helping her grow cherries.

TARA Hammett fears proposed wind farms at Mincha and Macorna will harm the micro-climate helping her grow cherries.
The Mincha farmer is wedged between the two sites that could become home to turbines if the projects proceed and says her business will be impacted.
“This is the reality Silverwood Orchards is now looking at,” she said.
“Our beautiful little farm, our productive trees, that some say produce the best tasting cherries ever, could be surrounded on three sides by wind turbine towers up to 250 metres high.
“The closest would be 1.5km from our house. At least 16 towers within 3km of our farm, towering over us, doing goodness knows what harm to our microclimate, potentially reducing our vital winter chill, and certainly testing our peaceful enjoyment of our farming lifestyle.
“The lively bird population that has made our farm their home now as the trees provide such great habitat, all now at risk as is the cleanliness of our cherries as two years of dusty construction activities take place at such close quarters.”
Tara said she felt her concerns were not important by the developers.
“As a neighbour we would be offered the equivalent of chicken feed to compensate us.
“There is no money that could compensate us for the losses we calculate could happen,” Tara said last week.
