Still in the family! Adele steps into husband’s SES boots.
CONTROL of the State Emergency Service’s Wedderburn unit has literally stayed “in the family”. Adele George was installed as the units new controller on Monday night.

She steeps into the emergency service boots of husband Michael who has held the position for two years.
Both joined the unit when the SES launched a recruitment campaign to rebuild membership after the Christmas 2023 floods. The unit had been stood down at that time.
Mrs George, like her husband and other new members, have since become accredited in rescue functions that saw the unit regain active status.
“The floods that hit the town and region over several weeks were a trigger to join and I’ve since then been accredited for road crash rescue, using a chainsaw and other functions. The only thing I don’t do is get on roofs,” she said.
Mrs George was also a co-ordinator for Women in Rescue Loddon Mallee event staged by the SES.
She said her aim as unit controller was to continue building the group’s capabilities and recruitment of more members.
“We’ve got a good crew - membership is now well into double digits - but we would ideally still like more to increase our response capacity,” she said.
