BLAKE Slatter was left without batting partners in Boort Yando’s run chase against Wedderburn on Saturday.
Cam Steel took three of the middle and tail-order wickets for Wedderburn but it was a great catch by Finn Turnbull off Jared Postle’s bowling that ended the defiant Slatter’s innings.
Slatter came to the crease with Boort on 62 in the chase of 142 set by Wedderburn after Alex Cockerell had been bowled by Isaac Holt for 22.
The well-timed deliveries of Steel meant every Slatter partner was sent walking in quick time.
Will Holt bowled the first two wickets that had Smith and Knight cheaply dismissed.
Wedderburn had batted first with Will and Brad Holt giving the home side a solid start on turf, Isaac Holt coming in at number four to top score with 56.
Boort’s bowling lineup was boosted with Fergus Bear playing his first game of the season and claiming two wickets and a stumping.
Kingower and Arnold both turned out with below-number sides for their clash.
Club and association stalwart Michael Rose took the field to give Kingower 10 players when defending the impressive target of 186 from 33 overs.
He joined son David and grandson Tyler Murphy in having the Redbacks dismissed for 11.
Rowe gave Kingower a strong start with 47 runs off 34 balls including nine fours while partner Will Deason found the boundary multiple times in hitting 34 off 52 balls before caught and bowled by Cam Dale.
Kyle Simpson put in another good week with the bat with 58 before snared by Ryan Metelmann of the bowling of Michael Dale, one of his two wickets for the afternoon.
Opener Henry McCullough and youngster Campbell Hancock were the best of Arnold’s bats.
Bowling honours for Kingower were shared by skipper Jayden Leach, Rowe and Simpson.
