A SPECIAL Remembrance Day badge commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of the World War Two is being sold by Loddon RSL sub-branches from this week.

RSL Victoria has released the limited-edition commemorative badge featuring the iconic image of three women cheering the end of the war on 15 August 1945.

Taken in Melbourne the identity of the women was not known until 1995 when William Drew identified his deceased wife Lois Anne Drew (nee Martin) as the woman wearing the distinctive VP Day sweater. He presented the sweater to the Australian War Memorial where it now resides in their collection.

The RSL wants to hear the story as we approach Remembrance Day 2025 and has asked people to share families’ photos of either Victory in Europe Day or Victory in the Pacific Day back in 1945.

Funds raised from the sale of the badges will go towards the charity work of RSL Victoria and its sub-branches assisting veterans and their families.

Local sub-branches are selling Remembrance day poppies and commemorative badges at pop-up stalls over the next fortnight.

Remembrance Day on November 11 marks the end of World War One when the the Armistice was signed and guns fell silent at the 11th hour of the 11 day of the 11 month in 1918.
