With the Bulls going along nicely at 1-62 chasing 245 for victory, Steve Giorlando and Danny Benaim stepped up.

First Benaim bowled the dangerous Nic Naughton and then took a brilliant diving catch at midwicket to dismiss top-scorer Brad Wickham off Giorlando’s bowling.

Benaim snared another catch off Giorlando’s wily spin to see off Harry McKinley – and the Bulls’ hopes at the same time.

McKinley’s dismissal for a duck saw Bridgewater slump to 4-66, and there was no coming back for the Bulls, who were bowled out for 135.

Giorlando bowled three maidens in his six overs to take 2-10 and crowned his bowling effort with a catch off Will Holt that seemed to shock the fieldsman, who sat on the turf with a look of amazement.

Another veteran in opening bowler Adam Postle copped some stick early but fought back to finish with 3-41 from a staggering 20 overs in the Market Square heat.

Benaim’s 1-8 came from seven overs of deadly accurate spin – after three maidens to start with he had taken 1-0.

Will Holt took 2-41 after starting with medium pace and then turning to leggies after seeing the webs being spun by Giorlando and Benaim. Six Bulls reached double figures, but Wickham’s 25 was the best of the lot, followed by Nic Naughton’s 24.

The win sees the Band secure in third place with one round to come, while Bridgewater is fifth but can snare the last finals place with a win over fourth-placed Arnold on Saturday.
