The alerts had six CFA tankers on the scene to contain the fire that destroyed an estimated 15 hectares.

Bridgewater brigade captain Tim Ferguson said the continued value of the fire spotters was to the fore on Sunday.

“They both spotted smoke around the same time,” he said.,

Mr Ferguson said the fire was believed to have started from a burnoff weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, fire destroyed more than 120 hectares of wheat crop and stubble at Pyramid Hill last Wednesday.

Pyramid Hill captain Steve Mann said the fire started when a harvester hit a power pole.

“The powerlines sparked, the day was very windy and the fire took off,” Mr Mann said.
