Smith's a gallant batsman
ONE TEAM appeared not to have got the memo about Saturday’s Bridgewater Bulls versus Boort Yando match being a T20 clash.

ONE TEAM appeared not to have got the memo about Saturday’s Bridgewater Bulls versus Boort Yando match being a T20 clash.
The Bulls, batting first, poked, prodded and scratched their way to 5-69 in their 20 overs.
Only two boundaries were scored during the innings, with no batsman able to collar the Magpies attack.
In response, Boort Yando knocked off the required runs in just 11.2 overs, cementing the side’s place in next Saturday’s Loddon Herald Cup T20 grand final.
Nine runs from the first over of the day suggested Bridgewater was up for the fight but things stagnated quickly.
Just 12 runs from the next five overs set the tone, with only a late flurry from Nic Naughton, who hie 12 off 17 balls batting at number six, adding any fat to the bone.
Veteran Brian Minogue’s wily leg-spin returned 2-12 from four overs, even allowing for a boundary off his first ball.
Opening bowler Harry Weaver took 2-10 from his four overs, with brother Jack taking the other wicket to fall.
The Magpies put on 48 for the first wicket before Jarrod Hodoras was dismissed, hitting a ball from Nick Dehnert straight to Andrew Duguid, who tumbled backwards as he took the catch and ended up looking like an overturned turtle.
Joshua Smith belted two sixes and three fours on his way to 43 not out from 40 balls. Seth Hewett-Scull’s first two overs were excellent, giving up just four runs, but his third and final over went for 19 after he injured his wrist bowling the first ball.
Lewis Lonsdale also copped some stick, with his three overs going for 28 runs. On the other hand, Dehnert’s 1.2 overs yielded 1-6.
Meanwhile, the Boort Yando club will conduct a nine-week Cricket Blast program from February 2.
The club is encouraging children aged five to 11 to join the program.
