Smiles and frowns: the faces telling you your speed
WARNING signs in Inglewood’s Brooke Street have had an immediate impact on driver speed through the shopping strip.

Tourism and development committee president Peter Moore, a long-time campaigner for road safety improvements in the town, said installation of signs had been well received in the community.
“Drivers travelling within the 40kmh limit are greet with their speed and a smiling face but those who choose to ignore the limit are faced with a red scowling dial,” Mr Moore said.
“The signs are also reassuring for pedestrians and other motorists. They may think a vehicle is well over 40 ... large B-doubles can be deceptive but the solar-powered signs show the limit is being observed.”
Mr Moore said the Australian-made signs had been funded with a $14,000 grant from Inglewood Community Bank while the shire council had met the $4500 cost of installation.
“These warning signs are the latest step in improving safety for motorists and drivers in Brooke Street,” he said. “Following the community campaign backed by the Loddon Herald that saw the 40kmh limit introduced two years ago, motorists now have an added reminder to drive with respect when travelling through Inglewood.”
