More than 80 students and teachers from Pyramid Hill College and East Loddon P12 College met with more than 20 exhibitors to learn about career pathways in Loddon communities.

Workforce Australia Local Jobs Program job co-ordinator Chris Booth said the event promoted the variety of exciting jobs available in the shire and highlighted the supports available to students and job seekers to find and keep a job.

“Job seekers came from as far as Bendigo to meet prospective employers and connect with employment services providers,” he said.

“Hands-on activities for the students provided by Ambulance Victoria, Bendigo TAFE, the Skills and Jobs Centre and the Minerals Council of Australia increased the engagement opportunities available with exhibitors.”

Exhibitors included Loddon Shire Council, Boort District Health, Inglewood and Districts Health Service, JBS Pork Australia, Virtual Contact Centre, providers from employment and apprenticeship services, and training organisations.

The day ended with representatives from local businesses attending an Appreciative Inquiry Workshop facilitated by Bounce Global CEO, Kelly Mason.

They worked on solutions to build a skilled workforce for the Loddon Shire by working together to develop a long-term action strategy.

Shire manager tourism and economic development David Stretch said: “The event provided opportunity for inspiration and aspiration for local students and job seekers, at a great event delivered by the Workforce Australia Local Jobs team.

“We also offer our thanks to the local and regional employment services and training providers who travelled to Pyramid Hill and contributed to the success of the day,” he said.

“We look forward to future collaboration and similar initiatives, to support students and job seekers in Loddon Shire and region,” said Mr Stretch.
