BENDIGO Livestock Exchange yarded increased numbers on Monday, with 5500 lambs and 5200 sheep offered in a mixed winter market where prices generally eased as buyers remained selective.

The lamb yarding consisted largely of smaller clean-up drafts, although more regular buyers had returned following winter shutdowns.
A trader/feeder operator active at recent sales purchased only limited numbers, having little influence on the market.
Lamb prices softened across most categories, with the majority of crossbred lambs selling to processors at an estimated 1050c to 1150c/kg cwt.
Overall, the average lamb price fell $20 to $272 a head, reflecting the decline in quality across many sections of the yarding.
Heavy export lambs sold from $335 to $395 a head, while the market topped at $398 for a small pen of extra-heavy Merino lambs in a quality skin.
Heavy crossbred lambs made $280 to $335, with better trade lambs selling from $260 to $300.
A draft of new season Riverina lambs attracted strong competition, with trade-weight lambs selling to $290 a head and store lambs making $216 and $242 back to the paddock.
Trade and heavy Merino lambs generally sold from $240 to $300, while lighter processing lambs returned $160 to $240.
Sheep numbers increased as more well-finished older ewes came onto the market.
Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $280 to $346 a head, Merino ewes reached $324, and Dorpers topped at $308. Most sheep sold between $200 and $260 a head. The mutton market was easier overall, generally returning 800c to 900c/kg cwt, with the average sheep price easing $20 to $254 a head.
