THE festive season will officially start in Loddon communities tomorrow when the new-look Christmas Arts festival opens in Wedderburn today.

The celebration of all things Christmasy starts a new era after an energetic group of local women banded together to continue the tradition forged decades ago by the town’s pathwork group.

Entries for exhibition will be delivered to the Mechanics’ Institute Hall today in a busy four hours from 2pm for the volunteers ahead of tomorrow morning’s opening.

One of the organisers, Alex Holt, said hundreds of people were expected to come from across Loddon communities and adjoining areas “to get the Christmas ball rolling”.

“The patchwork group members were so wonderful in what they did over all those years and we want to bring real cheer in 2025 as we keep the tradition alive,” Alex said.

The exhibition will give people their first chance to support Loddon businesses over the festive season - buying gifts and stocking up for the Christmas feasts.

Alex said: “Exciting news for our exhibition is that the trading tables are at capacity so there will be lots of Christmas stocking filler options to purchase.”

The exhibition’s opening day will include musical entertainment before the announcement of award winners at 5pm

Alex says: “Come along and celebrate the most wondrous time of the year with the most Creative Christmas Cheer!

“Delicious light meals and cakes provided by Susie Lockhart and barista hot and cold drinks provided by Coffee to Di For’ will be on sale inside the hall with tables and chairs set up for your ‘café’ comfort. “And on Saturday morning at 11am, there will be children’s craft activities and Santa will be ‘Ho, Ho Hoing’ from 11am.”

Retailers in Loddon towns are also gearing up for a super countdown to Santa’s arrival on Christmas Day.

They’ve stocked their shelves with great gift ideas that are more than a match for the offerings in big cities.

Shopping in your local stores and supporting local businesses is all part of the joy of Christmas ... so back our locals and make it a very Merry Christmas.
