RYLEA Bailey is the first Bridgewater Primary School Year 6 graduate to put her name on a new seat at the school.
Rylea also became the first student awarded the Allan Bunnett Memorial Award for integrity, pride in school and community, strong work ethic and values twice at last week’s awards night.
The old wooden bench seat restored was by Phillip Chandler, the grandfather of current student Amaya.
Principal Linda Kinglsey said: “The seat looks fabulous. We are making it the Graduate Bench – departing Year 6 students can sign the bench before moving on to their secondary schooling.”
Rylea was also school captain this year and Ms Kinglsey said: “The pride she feels in the school and wider community was always shining through in everything she did.
“While Rylea will be greatly missed, we know as she steps into this next chapter that she will continue to excel in all she sets your mind to.”
The school award for excellence this year went to Emily Bailey and the encouragement award to Odin Bennie. Angus Ferguson received the BPS/Inglewood Lions Club Values Award
Last week’s awards night also saw the school community farewell teacher Chris Guinane.
Ms Kingsley said the highlight of 2023 for the school had been the 150th anniversary on October 21.
“The design and sale of our commemorative tea towels, lunches and whole-school photo by the parents’ club was a huge success,” she said. “This money is being used to upgrade our outdoor classroom space and we look forward to unveiling this area early in the new year.”
