INGLEWOOD has been an early destination for this year’s Rotary Ride for Medical Research.

The 29 cyclists who are based for six days in Bendigo until tomorrow, had the town as their lunch break destination on Monday.

One of the riders, Janet Wallis, said more than $23,000 had been raised in 42nd year of the annual Rotary fundraiser.

“We’re using Bendigo as our base and will be riding between 70 and 120km each day and for the six days clocking up 578km,” she said.

“While the ride is about fun and sightseeing, one of the most important elements is raising funds for the medical research supported by Australian Rotary Health.”

She said Australian Rotary Health was one of the largest independent funders of mental health research in Australia.

“Australian Rotary Health provides funding towards research grants, fellowships and PhD scholarships focused on finding preventative and curative solutions for mental illness in young Australians.

“From 2023, our funding focus narrowed to the mental health of children aged 0-12.”

Monday’s ride started in Marong with the route including Rheola and Lockwood for a total of 103km.

Today, riders are headed to Tarnagulla, Bridgewater and Raywood on the tour’s penultimate day.
