The owner of the town’s motel since 2020 will continue the 25-year lease awarded by Loddon Shire Council two years ago.

Mr Barnes said having both accommodation options in his “stable” would boost choice for visitors.

“If one is booked out, we can offer them an option so they still stay in Wedderburn,” Mr Barnes said.

“That will be good for the town ... people staying here, eating at the cafe, hotel or the restaurant at the motel.”

Loddon Shire in 2023 announced lease agreements with Kristy and Warwick Hourigan for the Wedderburn and Bridgewater caravan parks.

Mr Barnes said the Hourigans had done “a fantastic job with Wedderburn”.

The Hourigans continue to operate Bridgewater where new cabins have been installed in the past two months with strong bookings at the park into 2026.

Kaye and Charlie Simpson are remaining as resident managers at Wedderburn where new cabins were also installed in 2023.

Last weekend they welcomed members of the Jayco Owners Club of Victoria for a long weekend stay. The club organises eight trips a year and members spent the weekend visiting Wedderburn’s mural and exploring the district.
