UPDATE 7PM (Major flood warning and road closures)

Major flooding is expected on the Loddon River tomorrow, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

The bureau advice is:

Strong river rises are occurring along the Loddon River upstream of Cairn Curran reservoir and in the tributaries of the Loddon River. Minor flooding is occurring at Newstead and moderate flooding is occurring at Bet Bet.

Major flooding is expected at Downstream Cairn Curran reservoir from Friday evening and major flooding is likely to develop at Laanecoorie Reservoir Downstream from Saturday morning.

The Loddon Weir downstream is around the moderate flood level and minor flooding is continuing along the Loddon River at Appin South.

Since 9:00 am Friday, rainfall totals of up to 15 mm have been observed across the Loddon River catchment. No significant rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Friday.

Goulburn Murray Water advise that Laanecoorie Reservoir is spilling.

Loddon River upstream of Laanecoorie:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Loddon River at Newstead. Moderate flooding occurring along the Bet Bet Creek at Bet Bet. Further rises possible.

The Loddon River D/S Cairn Curran is currently at 3.69 metres and rising, with moderate flooding. The Loddon River D/S Cairn Curran is expected to reach the major flood level (4.00 m) Friday evening.

Loddon River Laanecoorie to Loddon Weir:

Major flooding is likely along the Loddon River Laanecoorie to Loddon Weir.

The Loddon River D/S Laanecoorie is currently at 3.24 metres and rising, with moderate flooding. The Loddon River D/S Laanecoorie is likely to reach the major flood level (5.50 m) Saturday morning

EARLIER

The Loddon River downstream of Laanecoorie was at five metres a few hours ago, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

It says up to 50mm fell in the 24 hours to 5am today.

There are reports this morning of water across local roads including the Loddon Valley Highway at Campbells Forest and on the Bridgewater-Serpentine road.

Up to 15mm of rain is expected today.
