The Redbacks and the Magpies will meet at Donaldson Park after this week’s league-wide bye as they jostle for top spot.
Wedderburn had a comfortable win over second-placed Donald last Saturday, leading all afternoon to end up with a 27-goal victory.
The team really drew away in the last quarter, adding 20 goals to the Royal Blues’ 10.
Coach and goal shooter Meg Lowry was among the best for the Redbacks along with wing attack Paige Ryan and Kelsey Pallpratt, the skilful centre who won the league’s best and fairest award last season.
Goal attack Holly Lockhart won the players’ choice award for a team unbeaten in A Grade since 2024.
BOORT’S narrow win over Birchip Watchem in A Grade netball was a victory for “the mums”, according to coach Carly Isaac.
Roxy Train as goal keeper kept young Bulls star Zali Angel under control after quarter-time, while at the other end goal shooter Steph Wilson was strong and accurate.
The visitors were full of steam early and held a five-goal lead at the first break, but the Magpies responded in the second quarter to lead by a goal at the half.
After that it was a rollercoaster ride, with the teams swapping the lead almost constantly until Boort nailed the final three goals of the game to win by that margin.
Isaac said, “It was a really fun game to be part of.
“We got the upper hand in the last quarter, but we really had to dig deep.”
