COMMEMORATIVE services will be held in Loddon communities on Saturday for Remembrance Day.
Services at Boort, Inglewood and Wedderburn will be timed for a minute’s silence at 11am, the 105th anniversary of the Armistice that saw an end to the battles of World War One.
A new flagpole has been installed at the Rheola memorial where the Australian flag will be lowered to half-mast.
Members and supporters of RSL sub-branches in local communities have been selling the traditional red poppy badges outside supermarkets for the past week with local veterans encouraging people to wear their poppy on Remembrance Day.
Sellers will also be on the job again ahead of the short but solemn services on Saturday. Wedderburn’s service in the RSL memorial garden will start at 10.45am while Inglewood residents will pause at the Grant Street memorial.
Boort veterans and residents will gather at the RSL memorial wall at 10.40am.
Money raised by the poppy appeal is used by RSL sub-branches to assist in their welfare work with veterans.
“Remembrance Day is when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations,” said Boort president Paul Haw.
