The State Coalition says thousands of families have already made the move to regional Victoria, and the Liberals and Nationals want to make owning your own home more affordable in these growth areas.
It has announced 50,000 of the 150,000 new housing lots committed by the Liberals and Nationals will be located in regional Victoria if it wins the November 26 election.
The Coalition says to ease this pressure, it will also introduce a new planning flying squad to speed up and simplify the planning approvals process in regional Victoria.
Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said for those looking to own their own home, the choice is clear.
“More and more people are moving to the regions, and we think that is a good thing,” Mr Guy said.
“Daniel Andrews has made it clear that he wants you to rent forever – I disagree. As Premier, I will deliver real solutions to boost land availability so more people can call regional Victoria home.”
Shadow Minster for Planning, Ryan Smith, said the Liberals and Nationals’ plan will ease the housing pressure in regional areas without introducing any new taxes.
“Lack of available land has all happened on Labor’s watch, and regional Victorians are seeing the consequences of this first hand,” Mr Smith said.
