The Redbacks are unbeaten after a 40-point win over Sea Lake Nandaly, handing the Tigers their first defeat of the season.
Coach Tom Metherell said Wedderburn’s team defence had been outstanding “and our pressure on the footy was unbelievable”.
The margin seemed a comfortable one, but the Redbacks led by only 10 points five minutes into the last quarter at Donaldson Park after the Tigers kicked two quick goals. Wedderburn steadied the ship and then surged away, booting five goals in 15 minutes to seal the crucial win.

Metherell said he knew “every team will be trying to take us.
“We’re just going to take it from week to week – the old cliché – but that is what we have to do.”
Sea Lake’s Max Cahoon, the league’s top goalscorer for the season with 35 in five games, was held to one goal by Redback defender Corey Lowry. That goal was kicked in the third quarter and was Sea Lake’s only major for the term.
The Redbacks’ onball brigade outshone their opponents, with the Tigers’ star co-coached Wade Donnan and Boyd Bailey kept subdued.
