The Redbacks’ victory at Donaldson Park against their closest rival – geographically and on the table – again showed their dominance of the competition.
The two-time reigning premiers led by six goals at half-time and while the Magpies kept pace with them in the third quarter, Wedderburn pushed on to an 11-goal win.
Boort coach Carly Isaac said the game ebbed and flowed, with the Magpies closing within three goals in the third quarter.
“We’ll get them next time, I reckon,” she said.
“We know now where we stand.”
Best for the Magpies were Grace Hosking at goal defence and wing defence, while junior player Emma Lanyon impressed as wing attack in the second half in only her second A Grade match. Mid court star Kelsey Pallpratt, evergreen goal defence Maddi Postle and wing attack Paige Ryan impressed for the Redbacks.
Wedderburn coach Meg Lowry said the match was the toughest her team had faced this season.
“You always know that Boort will be fired right up,” she said.
Boort remains second on the ladder with a 3-2 record, ahead of three teams which have won two of their four matches – Sea Lake Nandaly, Birchip Watchem and Donald.
The Magpies will be off the court for the next fortnight, with the scheduled match against St Arnaud cancelled, and another league-wide bye for King’s Birthday.
The A Grade team will play practice matches against the club’s Under 17 and B Grade sides on the next two Thursday’s.
Lowry said she was “really excited to get into some regular netball flow” after the next general bye.
Wedderburn is at home again to Sea Lake Nandaly on Saturday
