REALITY television shows and the world’s best detectors were bringing goldhunters to the Loddon every weekend, said Tony Mills.
The Prospectors’ and Miners’ Association Victoria member said detectors were now more sophisticated and easier to operate than early models in the 1980s.
Tony and fellow PMAV member Maryanne Murdoch, of Moliagul, have been attending recent gold events in the region promoting the association’s activities.
“We have at least 40 people at our monthly meetings,” Tony said as goldhunters set off in this month’s Laanecoorie Gold Bash.
“There are always people going over places that have already been mined and picking up some gold,” said Maryanne.
“There was recently some good finds around Inglewood.”
Tony said with gold prices around $3000 an ounce, “detecting is a great hobby”.
