STRONG bidding and demand for Terrick West Poll Merino Stud rams has pushed Friday’s on-property auction average to above $3700.
The stud’s 33rd annual ram sale opened the 2022 auction season for Loddon studs with the average price up $1000 on last year.
The sale set two records - the average price and the first-ever total clearance with all 80 rams purchased by buyers from across the state.
Top price of $6500 was paid by Ian Klowss and Ellie Perryman from Oaklands Vectis, Vectis, for a ram of 20.5 micron fleece and a comfort factor of 99.7.
Ian said Terrick West genetics had been the basis of his sheep 20 years ago.
“We are now coming back to these rams as they produce a type of sheep that’s freer growing,” Ian said.
One of several multiple lot buyers, Ian said: “We bought six sheep today and we’re pretty much done for us, we’re happy with what we purchased for the year.”
Ian said the sheep were suited to his farm near Balmoral in the Wimmera.
