Rain drops final numbers at first sale of year

Most of the usual buying gallery attended in a much stronger market across all categories with competition from store buyers pushing light lambs along and all processors were on the rail chasing numbers. Lambs averaged $25 to $35/head dearer across the yarding.
Store buyers paid from $32 to $138/head for lambs back to the paddock. Young light trade lambs to suit MK orders made from $52 to $140/head, young lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $128 to $160 and lambs 22 to 26kg made from $156 to $188/head to have an average of 660c to 725c/kg.
Shorn lambs were in demand with 18 to 24kg selling from $138 to $188/head to average 780c to 810c, lambs 24 to 26kg made from $180 to $215 and lambs over 26kg sold from $183 to $254/head to average from 770c to 828c/kg cwt. A small yarding of mutton of mixed quality sold to $20/head dearer.
A few pens of Merino wethers made to $66/head. Merino ewes sold from $44 to $91/head to average 240c to 280c/kg and Crossbred mutton made from $33 to $90/head to average around 250c/kg cwt.
