Forest Fire Management Victoria says Friday night’s fire at McIntyre was suspicious. CFA crews from Rheola, Tarnagulla and Murphys Creek helped Forest Fire Management Firefighters from Inglewood and St Arnaud to control a the fire on Cains track near O’Brien’s Dam.

Firefighters were called to multiple fires in the McIntyre and Moliagul areas last summer, the largest burning five hectares of bush.

While Mr Pearce said he was not linking Friday night’s fire to last year’s spate, people in the district should remain alert.

Incident controller Braden Pearce has asked people who saw suspicious activity from as early as Friday morning to make a report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

One resident told the Loddon Herald they were concerned about the number of fires in the area. “That’s been six fires in less than 12 months on or around Cains Track area with a further four fires in surrounding area ... all to close to our property and very concerning,” they said.

Police were part of investigations into last summer’s fires.
