LODDON communities are among 453 Australian towns with a population under 3000 that do not have child care within a 20-minute drive.

The Mitchell Institute report found smaller towns were much more likely to have a school than a child care centre.

About 360 towns with a population under 1500 do not have centre-based day care but do have a school.

“Further research may be required to understand the need in these small towns,” the report said.
