Iberdrola Australia, the company forging ahead with plans for a 150-turbine off-shore wind farm in Gippsland, was announced by VicGrid on Tuesday to deliver the inland project between Stawell; and Kerang.

VicGrid took over the VNI West project last week and said Iberdrola’s partner role marked “a step forward in delivering one of the state’s most significant transmission projects”.

“Reflecting the importance of regional engagement, the tender process required proponents to demonstrate how they would work collaboratively with landholders, traditional owners and communities throughout the project’s delivery.”

CEO Alistair Parker said: “The appointment of Iberdrola as the development partner for VNI West provides confidence that this critical project will continue to progress with the right expertise and focus, maintaining grid reliability and delivering genuine benefits for regional communities.”

Iberdrola Australia Chairman and CEO Ross Rolfe said: ‘We’re proud to partner with VicGrid on VNI West and to play a key role in delivering one of Victoria’s most significant energy infrastructure projects. “Our experience in renewable energy, transmission networks, and major project delivery means we’re well placed to contribute to VNI West’s success and Australia’s broader energy transition.”

“We recognise the importance of building trusted relationships with landholders and local communities, and we’re committed to working closely with VicGrid to ensure respectful and transparent engagement throughout the project.”
