NORTHERN Victoria could be a powerhouse in renewable energy supply with a transmission line through the Loddon Shire named the preferred option for an interstate connection.

The VNI West proposed line would run a high capacity 500 kilovolt double-circuit overhead transmission line connecting Western Renewables Link at Ballarat with a new Project EnergyConnect terminal station at Dinawan, between Jerilderie and Coleambally
Mr McGauchie said the preferred Bendigo-Kerang route would put an emphasis on reliable energy supplies.
“It should have happened five years ago. Brown coal is being wound back and now we’re running out of power,” Mr McGauchie said.
He said that approvals were already in place for properties in the Loddon Shire to contribute three gigawatts to the interstate connector with the potential to at least double inputs if the project proceeds with a 2031 completion.
