A SPECIAL Japanese encephalitis vaccine clinic will run in Pyramid Hill on Sunday.

The town’s community neighbourhood house asked Bendigo Health to set up the pop-up clinic after Loddon Shire was included in eligibility for the vaccine.

Co-ordinator Kim Bennett said the house had earlier collaborated with Bendigo Health to operate pop-up COVID-19 clinics.

Pyramid Hill had been the only major Loddon town where vaccinations against Japanese encephalitis were unavailable. In other towns, the vaccinations are being offered by health services, doctors or pharmacists. “We approached Bendigo Health and they have agreed to return to provide vaccinations against Japanese encephalitis,” Kim said.

Sunday’s pop-up clinic will also offer vaccinations for COVID-19 and influenza. Loddon Shire residents aged over 50 who spend multiple hours outdoors each day can receive a Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine.

Meanwhile, a pop-up clinic for Japanese encephalitis vaccinations will be at Dingee Memorial Hall on Monday afternoon.
