Town malleefowl signs get the big thumbs down in feedback

THE streetscape rejuvenation in Inglewood will be without town signage incorporating the malleefowl if final plans follow community feedback.
The signage in draft plans by Djandak was strongly opposed in feedback received by Loddon Shire Council during consultation.
The shire’s manager tourism and economic development David Stretch said: “Council received close to 80 written responses from members of the public, regarding the Inglewood Streetscape Enhancement Project design, during the public feedback period.
“Six local community members submitted verbal feedback to the project team at one of four community ‘listening post’ events.  The project team has collated the feedback and organised the information into key themes, to inform the next iteration of the design.
The feedback included strong opposition to the town signage incorporating a malleefowl design and also wide concern regarding potential damage to footpaths caused by tree roots.  Vehicle parking and pedestrian accessibility has also emerged as a priority for community members.”
Mr Stretch said feedback would be shared with the project’s community advisory Group and councillors and “then shared to members of the public”.
A Loddon Herald reader poll showed overwhelming opposition to the malleefowl which is also used on town signage in Nhill and Patchewollack.
Readers said they wanted to retain the town’s iconic Blue Eucy branding in the new streetscape design.
Mr Stretch said Loddon Shire’s project funding application to the Australian Government’s Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program was due this month and was the current focus for the project team.
“Once project funding is secured and the project’s community advisory group has endorsed design updates, the designers will be briefed by the project team.” Mr Stretch said.
The draft design also includes indigeneous murals and more trees in Brooke Street.
