Lonely day on the booths for the party faithful
1 min read

THERE were eight candidates on the ballot paper for Mallee in Saturday’s election.
But at polling booths across the Loddon, the only constant presence came from sitting member Anne Webster.
Her volunteers decked in yellow and green T-shirts were handing out how-to-vote cards as people arrived to fill in their ballot papers, corflutes emblazoned with Dr Webster’s image attached to fences or sitting in A-frames.
At the Bridgewater, Inglewood and Wedderburn booths, they were joined by party faithful backing Labor’s candidate Greg Olsen.
The Tarnagulla booth had just a box of Labor cards and a corflute late morning.
The other six candidates were not to be seen in person or on posters.
Arnold farmer Carly Noble, who was No 2 on the Democrats’ Senate ticket, told supporters she had toured Loddon booths on election day.
The Democrats received 7882 votes in Victoria and will not fill any Senate spots.
