Policing is a generational career path, with the children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and other family – even friends – of members following in their footsteps early in life.
More young adults are also wanting to start a police career, sometimes as soon as they finish high school.
To help prepare the next generation of police officers for their role, Victoria Police is holding a Careers Expo targeted towards school leavers, Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students, young adults on a gap year, and 18- to 24-year-olds.
“In the past we have seen members bring their children to our information sessions because they’re keen to follow in their parent’s footsteps one day,” Talent, Attraction and Programs (TAP) Team’s Acting Manager Robert Mangani said.
“We also see members bring their siblings, nieces, and nephews to our recruitment events and career days because they intend to follow the family career path and want to learn more about how to join.
“So, we want to spread the word about this Careers Expo and give everyone the opportunity to invite or bring along family and friends who are (or may be) interested in a policing career.”
Police and PSOs should also encourage community members they interact with while on duty to attend.
Although targeted to younger potential applicants, people of all ages are welcome at the event.
The Victoria Police Careers Expo details are as follows:
