The Mean Machine’s 34-goal win over Macorna was based on a rock-like defence which held the Tigers to only 19 goals.
Coach Lou Dupuy said her team was “now playing as a unit, which we knew would come” and the focus was now on four-quarter performances.
Bridgey is second, with a 35 per cent gap to third-placed Pyramid Hill and even further ahead, on percentage alone, of Newbridge and Inglewood, with all teams having a 6-3 record.
Dupuy said goal attack Dannielle Flood was best against Macorna, with sister Nat fighting a titanic battle against Tiger goal keeper Laura Bennie.
Defender Erin Delahunty was also outstanding in quelling Macorna’s goalers.
The Mean Machine can sneak ahead of one of its closest rivals if it can beat Newbridge on Saturday.
The game has been brought forward by 30 minutes so that the netball players can enjoy watching Gary Ablett on the footy field.
CALIVIL is in a rebuilding year, coach Annie Blow insists, but a crucial win over Maiden Gully sees the Demons at 4-5 for the season, and not without hopes of a finals spot.
The 62-35 win against a physical Eagles team came from a full team performance, she said.
“Every player who took to the court did exactly what was expected of them.
“We knew Maiden Gully was going to be physical and rough, and we held our own really well.”
Wing defence Shay Wakefield took out Calivil’s best on court award for her efforts against Eagles coach Christie Griffiths, while Blow said Tia Steen’s performance as goal attack was “perfection”.
She also had praise for Ava Maxted as the former centre transitioned into a wing attack role.
The Demons face unbeaten Mitiamo this week, while Maiden Gully travels to Macorna to take on the winless Tigers.
