Paperwork lodged in league transfer
MAIDEN Gully has officially notified the Loddon Valley league of its plan to transfer to the Bendigo competition next year as Marong on Wednesday night also voted to apply to join Bendigo in 2027.
MAIDEN Gully has officially notified the Loddon Valley league of its plan to transfer to the Bendigo competition next year.
And Marong members voted to also lodge an application to head to Bendigo in 2027, with more than 75 per cent of members voting in favour.
The Eagles forwarded a letter of intent to the Loddon board on Friday, only 12 hours after a meeting at which club members voted to rubberstamp the move.
Marong members were meeting last night to decide if the Panthers will also apply for a transfer to the BFNL in 2027.
It is expected that the club will vote to seek a move.
The Maiden Gully correspondence sets in motion a formal process that initially requires the Bendigo league to consult with Loddon Valley officials over any transfer requests.
AFL Victoria will then set up a panel to assess the validity of the transfer.
If the Bendigo league decides to accept a club’s application to move, it must notify AFL Victoria and the Loddon Valley league by 5pm on July 31.
The Loddon league would then have one day to decide whether to appeal the decision.
The July 31 deadline also applies If Bendigo makes a call not to accept a club’s transfer request.
Loddon Valley is considered unlikely to appeal if a transfer is approved, accepting that both Maiden Gully and Marong would outgrow the smaller Loddon competition.
